A Tribute to
Betty Hyde (Prather)
Betty P. Hyde (Sarah Elizabeth Hyde), 84-years-old, of Orlando, Florida passed away peacefully on Tuesday, December 22, 2020 at her home with her loving children by her side.
Betty was born June 16, 1936 in Fort Myers, Florida, the daughter of the late Sarah Goodman Prather and Frank Allen Prather.
Betty was a member of the Fort Myers Junior Welfare League, the Fort Myers Women’s Community Club, Lee Memorial Hospital Auxiliary, and Pi Beta Phi Alumnae Club which was chartered in 1970. Betty served as Alumnae President in 1972-73. She also enjoyed church, tennis, teaching, and having amazing dinner parties. It was not until 2003 that Betty moved to Orlando to be closer to her children and grandchildren.
Betty was a dedicated mother first and foremost (although getting her hair and nails done was a close second). She treasured her children and embraced every moment with them. She especially loved her role as Nana. As many of her friends have conveyed, she had an inspiring and vivacious personality. She was gracious, giving, loving, kind, compassion, and caring but most of all she was beautiful inside and out!
Losing a “Super Mom” like Betty is one of life’s saddest events but it is also one of life’s greatest blessings to have had a Mom to miss so much. She has instilled so much love and drive in her children, grandchildren, and everyone around her that her legacy will live on in each of us.
Betty is survived by two children, Kelly Hyde-DeLattre (Tom) of Orlando, Florida and Brett Hyde (Stacey) of Merritt Island, Florida; four amazing grandchildren, Dylan Hyde (21-years-old), Morgan and Jake DeLattre (19-years-old) and Dalton Hyde (18-years-old); her “younger” brother, Frank Allen Prather, Jr. (Cecilia); and three nieces, Kim Prather-O’Grosky (Robert), Beth Prather, and Paige Prather-Harrison (Tom); and many dear friends.
Betty was born and raised in Fort Myers, Florida where she graduated from Fort Myers High School. She attended Florida State University and graduated in 1958 majoring in education. While in college (1956), Betty was crowned Queen of the Edison Light festivities. She also was an active member of Pi Beta Phi Sorority. Following college, Betty moved back to Fort Myers were she initially worked as bank teller. However, her heart led her to teach elementary school for over 20 years at Allen Park Elementary School. It was not until later in life that she worked in the legal field and then joined forces with her brother in rental properties.
