JO HAIGHT SARLING

Jo Haight Sarling grew up in Cocoa Beach, daughter of a rocket scientist. She was an avid user of the library and later, when her children were born, she utilized the library in Hillsborough, NC for books for the family. She became president of the Friends of the Library and initiated new fundraising efforts for this community library. Upon moving to Denver, Colorado in 1991, Jo started work at The Denver Public Library and received her Masters in Library Science. After a few years working in the 22 neighborhood branches, Jo became the first Systems Librarian and finished her career at the Library as the Director of Collections and Technology. Her division was responsible for purchasing all circulating and reference materials, in all formats; designing, building, and maintaining the DPL web site; Interlibrary Loan; staff and public technology, including internet access through PCs and wi-fi; and the Community Technology Center department in the Central Library. Upon retiring in 2009, Jo returned to Cocoa Beach. She has been part of Rolling Readers since 2013 and President of the Board since 2014.
